Description of Tests

Safety Test 1

  1. Jump into pool in deep water and swim back to side of pool alone.
  2. Swim distance prescribed by age table above.

Safety Test 2

  1. Jump or dive into pool and get out alone. Swim minimum distance for course registered.
  2. Tread water for 2 or more minutes. Safety float on back motionless for 2 minutes.

Swimming Test 1

  1. 60' total distance (Any Stroke)
  2. breathing
  3. One Additional Stroke
  4. Treat for 3 Minutes
  5. Free Float for 3 Minutes

Swimming Test 2

  1. 300' total distance (Any Stroke)
  2. breathing
  3. One Additional Stroke
  4. Tread for 5 Minutes or more
  5. Free Float for 5 Minutes or more

* Breathing means the ability to take in air while swimming, not necessarily with perfect form.
